About the instructor...Mrs. Higgins received her undergraduate degree from Illinois State University in music education where she graduated with high honors. She is a member of MENC and IMEA. She teaches 4th and 5th grade band at Naper and Mill Street Elementary Schools. Before coming to Naperville, Mrs. Higgins taught general music in Galesburg, Illinois. Mrs. Higgins\' primary instruments are euphonium and piano. When not teaching, she loves to read a good book, bike ride or roller blade, and spend time with her husband! You may may be asking, \"What happened to Ms. Boesen? - don\'t worry, she is still teaching at Mill Street and Naper! She married Sean Higgins this summer and changed her name! Mrs. Higgins is looking forward to another fantastic year at Mill Street and Naper Elementary!! | About the program...Mill Street has a 4th grade (Preparatory) band and a 5th grade (Mustang) band, each meeting in full rehearsal once a week- 4th Grade Band on Tuesdays and 5th Grade Band on Wednesdays. Individual lesson groups also are scheduled for all band students on a rotating lesson schedule- most 4th grade lessons are on Monday or Tuesday. 5th Grade lessons are scheduled on Wednesdays or Fridays. Your child will have lessons on the SAME DAY each week but at a DIFFERENT TIME; this is to help minimize missed instructional time. Our band room is a very generous rehearsal space that allows for all students to have room for their instruments, equipment and great facilities for learning. The bands perform concerts in late fall/winter and again in the spring. In addition students perform assembly concerts for the school during the daytime. Curriculum work is centered on the student band lesson book, goal lines, and material but also includes use of various levels of rhythm charts and scale sheets and supplementary music and worksheets. Full ensemble music is also provided through band sheet music and ensemble books. |
