About the instructor...

Kathy Wrobel

Ms. Wrobel enjoys teaching vocal music. She has performed in musicals since she was in elementary school. She has also been playing for her church for over 10 years.

Ms. Wrobel graduated from Rosary College in River Forest. She has a Master\'s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. Ms. Wrobel consistently participates in extra coursework to upgrade her skills and improve her teaching strategies.
The Highlands Fine Arts team was honored by the State of Illinois for \"Those Who Excel\" award in 2007. This team was made up of Kathy, Curt Wills and Dottie Farrell

Kathy was awarded the \"Office Max Teacher of the Month\" in February 2008, surprising her after her 1st grade Musical.

Kathy is a major part of the Outdoor Education Program. She enjoys going on overnight trips with the 5th grade students where she leads Folk Song sing-a-longs around a camp fire. Over 100 students enjoy particapating in this educational experience.
She has also continues to allow students to perform through Highlands Cafe\'-Students play their instruments for all three lunch hours. This happens for 2 weeks in April.
The challenge of the STAFF GAME in class will round off the year with some note nameing fun.




About the program...

Music students at Highlands in grades K-5 meet 2 times weekly. Ms. Wrobel\'s primary goal is to enable students to express their feelings through melody, harmony, rhythm, form, and tone color in different styles of music.
Solo singing and Dancing with partners has been lot\'s of fun for the children. Try it you might just find a hidden talent.
Students are expected to understand the sensory elements, organization principals and expressive qualities of Music.( The Elements)
They will be able to apply skills and knowledge necessary to create and perform in Music class. (Vocal and Instrumental)
They will be able to understand how Music can shape and reflect History,Society and every day life. (Evaluate and Assessment)

Over 100 4th and 5th grade students are able to join Highlands Singers each January. The Chorus performs in March and all around Town for fun.
