About the instructor...Mrs. Moore is a graduate of Western Illinois University School of Music and received her Masters of Music at Northwestern Illinois University. She currently teaches 4th and 5th grade band at Beebe and Ellsworth Elementary Schools. During marching season, she also works with the Naperville North High School pit percussionists. Prior to coming to Naperville, Mrs. Moore taught 4th-8th grade band in Peotone, Illinois and her home town, Glenwood, Illinois. | About the program...Ellsworth School has a combined 4th and 5th grade band. The band performs several times throughout the year, including school assemblies, a formal evening spring band concert, and the band festival at Washington Jr. High. Students meet weekly for group lessons where they develop their instrumental skills through lesson book studies, scales and rhythm drills. Band meets as a full group every Wednesday to practice a variety of sheet music and build ensemble skills such as balance and blend. Each trimester the students receive a sheet of goals to complete at their own pace. During the first semester, students are encouraged to perform solos at their lesson. For each solo performed they add another note with their name on it to our Super Soloists Wall. Beginning in January students will have the opportunity to participate in Chamber Groups (small ensembles)which perform on the evening Winter Concert. Additionally, with the start of the new year, students will begin the \"Songs for Stars\" program in which they can earn stars for individual, memorized performance of scales and lesson book songs. |
