About the instructors...Mr. Van Kley joined the NNHS Music Faculty in the fall of 2004, and serves as the Associate Director of Bands. He has earned degrees in Music Education from both Wheaton College and Northern Illinois University. Prior to joining the NNHS Music staff, Mr. Van Kley taught in Peoria Dist. #150 and Plainfield CUSD #202, respecively, as well as serving on the faculty of Northern Illinois University during the Spring of 2004. During his career, he has had the opportunity to work with students ranging in age from kindergarten to graduate student, and everything in between. Dan Moore Director of Bands Dan Moore received his B.A. in Music Education from Western Illinois University in 1987 and his M.M. in Jazz Pedagogy from Northwestern University in 1999. Between those degrees, he taught for eleven years in various highly-successful Downstate Illinois band programs, including Milledgeville, Watseka, and Limestone High Schools. He is currently in his twelfth year as Director of Bands at NNHS. Under Mr. Moore\'s direction, the NNHS bands have experienced a high measure of success. The Marching Huskies have been State of Illinois finalists for the past eleven years in a row, and Bands of America Regional finalists in 2000, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2009. The Symphonic Wind Ensemble has performed at many prestigious festivals, including the IMEA All-State Convention in 2004, the Bands of America National Concert Band Festival in 2005, and the Illinois Superstate Festival in 2008. The Jazz Ensemble was a finalist in the 2000 Essentially Ellington Festival. | About the program... |
