About the instructor...

Karen Campbell

Mrs. Campbell is a graduate of the University of Illinois and has taught orchestra in public schools for fourteen years. She also plays in an adult orchestra and a string quartet and teaches violin and viola privately. She and her family enjoy hiking, camping, reading, gardening, and their cats and fish. But, she loves that her work and favorite hobby are the same: music! Mrs. Campbell thoroughly enjoyed the past six years with District 203 and is looking forward to making the coming year even better for all orchestra students!

About the program...

Small group lessons meet for a half hour one day each week: Mondays at Steeple Run and Wednesdays at Beebe. Lessons follow a rotating schedule throughout the school day, so that a given academic class is missed only once every several weeks to attend a lesson. In addition to lessons, students are also able to practice in a larger group setting during the recess period before or after lunch.

It is essential that all students practice at home for at least 20 minutes per day between lessons/rehearsals so they are able to progress and keep up with their lesson group. A list of qualified private teachers is available upon request, and private lessons outside of school are strongly encouraged.

Concerts are scheduled periodically to showcase student achievements and help motivate practice. Some concerts are informal and take place during the school day, while others are more formal and open to parents and the public. Please make a note of all scheduled concert dates, as students are encouraged and expected to participate. Performing in public is fundamental to the orchestra program and an exciting way to share our talent with friends and family members!
