About the instructor...Mr. Jerry Zitko has taught orchestra in the District #203 schools since graduating from DePaul University with a Bachelor\'s Degree in Music Education in 1983. He received his Master\'s Degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from North Central College in 1998. Mr. Zitko is a 1999 nominee for the prestigious Golden Apple Award and is listed in the 2005-2006 Who\'s Who Among American Teachers. In the summers of 2008 and 2010, Mr. Zitko served on the staff of the Illinois Ambassadors of Music European Concert tour where he had the opportunity to conduct and perform with high school and college students from all across Illinois in seven European countries. Mr. Zitko is a member of the American String Teachers Association and has been active in the DePaul University School of Music Alumni Association. He remains active as a violinist in the Chicago area. Mr. Zitko currently teaches orchestra students at three District #203 schools: Madison Junior High, Scott Elementary, and River Woods Elementary. He also directs the Bluegrass Strings group at Madison. | About the program...Directed by Mr. Jerry Zitko, the Madison Jr. High Orchestra program consists of one weekly small group lesson and two orchestra rehearsals. Small group lessons focus on developing technical skills on individual instruments, while the orchestra rehearsals provide an opportunity to apply these skills to the preparation of music for performance. Madison has two orchestras: 7th and 8th Grade Symphonic Orchestra In addition to participating in the school orchestra, all Madison string players have the opportunity to participate in the Madison Bluegrass Strings Group where fiddling, jazz, and improvisational techniques are covered. |
