About the program...

Directed by Mr. Jerry Zitko, the Madison Jr. High Orchestra program consists of one weekly small group lesson and two orchestra rehearsals. Small group lessons focus on developing technical skills on individual instruments, while the orchestra rehearsals provide an opportunity to apply these skills to the preparation of music for performance.

Madison has two orchestras:
6th Grade Orchestra
The 6th Grade Orchestra is primarily a string orchestra. The students are sometimes combined with the 7th and 8th Grade Symphonic Orchestra to give the students a full orchestra experience.

7th and 8th Grade Symphonic Orchestra
The 7th and 8th Grade Symphonic Orchestra performs both as a string orchestra and a full orchestra utilizing woodwinds, brass, and percussion players from the Madison 7th and 8th Grade Bands.

In addition to participating in the school orchestra, all Madison string players have the opportunity to participate in the Madison Bluegrass Strings Group where fiddling, jazz, and improvisational techniques are covered.
