document.write('<tr><td align=left valign=top width="300"><center><BR><H3><u>About the instructor...</u></H3></center><font size="2"><b>Susan Tarson</b><p>Miss Tarson received her Bachelor of Science degree specializing in Elementary - General Music Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign in 1993. In 2000, she received her Master of Music degree specializing in Ethnomusicology from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. </p><p>During the 2004 school year, Susan became a National Board Certified Teacher and earned her Orff-Schulwerk Level I Certification at VanderCook College of Music. </p><p>Miss Tarson currently teaches general music education at Scott School, grades K-5. She also sponsors the Scott School World Music Ensemble, an extra-curricular activity for Scott 5th graders. </p><p>In 2002, Miss Tarson was nominated for the NCUSD #203 Those Who Excel Award and she also received a grant to purchase instruments from the Naperville Education Foundation (NEF). In 2005, Susan again earned a grant to purchase additional instruments from the NEF. </p><p>Miss Tarson is a member of the Music Educators National Conference (MENC), Greater Chicago American Orff-Schulwerk Association (GCAOSA) and Sigma Alpha Iota (SAI), a professional music fraternity.</p><BR><BR></font> </td><td align=left valign=top cellpadding=5 width="300"><center><BR><H3><u>About the program...</u></H3></center><font size="2"><p>At Scott Elementary School, general music classes meet bi-weekly. Ms. Tarson\'s primary goal is to promote an understanding and love of music through listening, moving, performing, composing and creating. </p><p>Scott School also offers the World Music Ensemble for 5th grade students. This activity meets on Tuesdays from 2:30 to 3:15 P.M. Any 5th grader is eligible to join. Members may perform at the 5th grade program and at NIU for music education faculty and students. While at NIU the WME members also experience a hands on workshop playing Javanese and Balinese Gamelan presented by NIU faculty. Members are expected to have regular attendance at rehearsals.</p></font> </td></tr>')
