About the instructor...Mr. Silder serves as band director at River Woods and Scott Elementary Schools. Mr. Silder was raised in Naperville and is a graduate of Naperville North High School. He enjoys running, mountain biking, tennis, golf, swimming, and is always in search of the best BBQ recipes. The greatest joy of his life lies in his cherished wife, Amie, his daughter, Katharine, and sons, Toby and Ian. Mr. Silder is a National Board Certified teacher (2009) and was recognized as the most outstanding first year teacher in District 203, receiving the Arlo Schilling award (2003). Mr. Silder received his musical education from Illinois State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Music in Music Education. His primary trombone teachers have been Dr. Steve Parsons, Bob Hess, and Chris Trinche. Mr. Silder has studied conducting with Mr. Dan Farris, Dr. Steven Steele, and Dr. John Lynch. While at Illinois State University, Mr. Silder participated in the Wind Symphony, Jazz Band, Symphony Orchestra, and multiple chamber ensembles. Other ensembles include the \'Big Red Marching Machine\', in which Mr. Silder was the Drum Major, additionally he was the student conductor of the pep band, and was a founding member of the \"IB5\" Brass Quintet. Mr. Silder\'s professional performing experiences include: Illinois Symphony Orchestra, Pontiac Municipal Band, Naperville Municipal Band, and the Illinois Brassworks. From 2002-2010 Mr. Silder taught instrumental music at Naperville Central high school. There he conducted the Wind Ensemble, Wind Symphony and Concert Band. He was the teacher of Music Appreciation: Bach to Rock. Outside of school he also taught Jazz Lab Band, Marching Band, and Pep Band. | About the program...The Scott Band performs several times throughout the year, including winter program performances, a spring concert, and the fifth grade band festival. Throughout the year students are working on performance music as well as achievement lines and scale requirements. Additional performances are occasionally scheduled for special events. |
