About the instructor...

Renee Howe

Mrs. Howe studied Music Education at Illinois Wesleyan University and VanderCook College of Music, where she graduated from in 2006. She teaches fourth and fifth grade band at Prairie Elementary School and sixth grade band at Jefferson Junior High School. Previously, Mrs. Howe taught general music, choir, and beginning band in Plainfield, IL for four years. In addition to that, she has also worked with the percussion section for Plainfield Central High School’s marching band, has performed in the pit orchestras for many musicals, taught private lessons, and judged many solo and ensemble competitions. Her primary instrument is the oboe.
When not teaching or performing, she loves to cook, watch football (Go Bears!) and play with her dog, Alex.

About the program...

The Prairie Band has gone through a tremendous growth over the last 15 years. We had only around 50 members in a good year many years ago. The last few years we have ranged in members from 65-75. Each year we have had a very high percentage of fifth graders who have successfully auditioned into the School District #203 Honor Band. We have a select number of band students who perform with the choral department on the winter program. We have several opportunities for small ensemble performance from a select group of students who perform on our band concerts. Private lessons are optional but encouraged.
